Spiders in NC

There are around 3000 species found in the U.S.

Many are household pests.

They feed on insects.

The most common dangerous spider found in North Carolina is the black widow. It is jet black in color with a bright red hour glass marking on the underside. In a week or more after mating, the female spider can lay up to several hundred eggs in a silken sac.

Most spiders live only one or two seasons, are nocturnal, and will hurry away when bothered.
